Behind the Story
Starting high school is a big change for any child, and Renee was thinking in particular of several students at her school. One had always been at the specialist school and then had to move to a mainstream school. One had always been in mainstream school and then moved to the specialist school. Another had been homeschooled and then came to the specialist school. Renee wanted to write an accessible story featuring an autistic student settling into a new school, with all the uncertainty, courage and friendship that can come with that transition.
