Behind the Story
Baby it’s Cold Outside is the prequel short story for Renee’s debut novel, Don’t Mean a Thing.
It came out of the writing process for that first novel. Renee got partway through and realised she needed to understand Macie’s backstory, so she simply started writing it. At first, it was one chapter in the novel, explaining why Macie joined the military.
Renee later cut that chapter from Don’t Mean a Thing, expanded it into its own short story and used it as a free taster so readers could meet Macie before finding out what happened next in the series.
