Behind the Story
This Kitten was the first book in the This and That picture book series. The idea arrived one afternoon in class while Renee was spending time co-regulating with a student before home time. The student was showing her funny cat videos, and Renee began making up rhymes about the silly things the cats were doing. The moment that stuck was a cat pulling all the toilet paper off the roll. They both giggled, and the playful rhythm became Renee’s first picture book. The story also carries a little affection for the cats Renee has loved across her life, including Miffy, a ginger cat from childhood, and Daisy, a calico from adulthood.
