Behind the Story
This Mouse came from Renee knowing exactly how much mischief a mouse can cause. The real-life version involved a mouse pushing the lid off his enclosure in the middle of the night, running across Renee’s desk, finding a bag of lollies, nibbling around the edge of the chocolate drops, then scampering across the room and scratching behind the books in the bookcase until she woke up and put him back in his house. That was a brilliant mouse story, but it did not fit neatly into a short rhyming picture book line, so the published version became much simpler and easier for children to read aloud.
